1973 Gibson L6-S Custom – Natural – Maple Fingerboard – Bill Lawrence Super Humbuckers – Early Production Serial# 173581

Up for sale is a beautiful 1973 Gibson L6-S, one of the earliest examples of this innovative Bill Lawrence-designed model. Finished in its original Natural Maple, this guitar features the highly sought-after maple fingerboard, 6-position rotary selector, and Tune-o-Matic bridge with stop tailpiece, making it a standout example from the beginning of L6-S production. The original L6-S (later referred to as the L6-S Custom) debuted in 1973 and introduced Gibson's first production solidbody with 24 frets, along with an incredibly versatile electronics package designed to deliver a wide range of tones.

The all-maple construction gives this guitar exceptional clarity, sustain, and attack, while the original Bill Lawrence-designed Super Humbuckers produce everything from warm jazz tones to cutting rock sounds. The six-position rotary switch offers unique series, parallel, and out-of-phase pickup combinations, making this one of the most sonically versatile vintage Gibsons ever produced.

The neck is comfortable with low action and excellent playability. The frets have plenty of life remaining, and the guitar delivers the bright, articulate tone that made the L6-S a favorite of players including Carlos Santana, Keith Richards, and Al Di Meola.

Cosmetically, the guitar shows honest vintage wear consistent with over 50 years of careful use but remains in excellent overall condition. Everything functions as it should, including the rotary selector and electronics.

A fantastic opportunity to own one of Gibson's most unique and underrated vintage instruments. Early maple-fretboard 1973 examples are becoming increasingly difficult to find, especially in clean, original condition.

Please review all photos carefully and feel free to reach out with any questions. Frets in good shape. Tuners where updated with the right type of Grovers no routings. Looks and plays fine. Gibson Gig bag Included.
