Bought this used on Reverb during the pandemic. Everything is fully functional. The number 9 button is missing its cap, but the button still works normally, as you can see from the #79 drum pattern in the picture. Other than that ... it’s a 40 year old drum machine. There are some scratches and blemishes here and there, but the thing is built like a tank; it’s the heaviest drum machine I’ve ever handled. It does get quite warm, the longer you leave it on; I guess they weren’t always thinking about air flow and ventilation in 1984? The thing is solid metal, minus the end caps.

Not much else to say? It’s an incredible vintage drum machine that packs a punch. It was right there with the Linn and DMX as the first sample based drum machines (the 909 also has samples, texhnically). It immediatley puts you in that classic, 80’s music mindset. But you can also expand its pallet with EPROMs from other drum machines, something I never did. It’s intuitive, easy, and always satisfying and fun to use.
I love it, but it’s time for me to part with some of the gear I haven’t been using as much. i bought a Tempest a few years back, so that drum machine has been my go-to ever since. So I‘m setting the Drum Traks free, and hopefully someone else will dig it and be as amazed as I was when I first got it. Aside from my Juno 6, it was my most memorable and gratifying gear acquisition. In fact, it was the main inspiration for me getting my Juno. The Drum Traks made me reevaluate my gear purchases … by targeting certain vintage pieces and being willing to pay a premium for them, deapite “better”, more advanced modern gear being available. I feel like the magic of vintage gear is real, and you get that magic instantly every time you flick on that “on” switch … not to get too corny. But that’s how I really feel about it, and the Drum Traks definitely has the magic!
