Hello and welcome to The House of Chrome.

You are looking at a very nice and somewhat obscure microphone made by Lafayette back in the 1950's or 60's that comes with an original chrome desk stand and short cable shown. This is a crystal model with the High Z setting that was an entry level affordable mic that could be used for basic recording or broadcast purposes. That being said the mic does work but the output is very weak. Maybe around 30% at most therefore this really should be used for prop, display or repair purposes only.

This is the Lafayette 99-4522 model which is a small mic that's the size of a short cigar. It's appx 5 inches long X 1 inch wide but is an all metal construction with a beautiful polished chrome finish.

There were quite a few Japanese manufactures at that time that sold mics that were sold a different badge that were identical to the Lafayette model. The 99-4522 is not one of them though as I have not seen this particular design. It seems to be a very early model. These were small, lite weight, rugged mics that were easy to transport due to their compact size. This 99-4524 has an all metal / chrome detachable stand which makes for an attractive and stable platform.

This mic had a dirtier tone to it that's void of bass as you would expect from a Hi Z dynamic mic. The mic was omni-directional as well picking up a bit more background noise but again this example is very weak working.

This mic has virtually no wear as you can see. The Lafayette badge looks extremely nice as well as does the front chrome grill. The mic is free of tarnish or any unwanted odors.

You'll notice that there is a built in short cable. It's appx 8 inches long. Soft, pliable and as good as the day this mic was sold. You'll see that there is a male Switchcraft XLR end connector as well. This allows you to attach any standard XLR cable to your audio equipment. It's a practical set up.

The original adjustable chrome desk stand is in perfect working condition and has the mic clip in which the mic seats. The clip grips the mic firmly too. No wear on the stand or clip. You can get just about any angle or direction needed as the stand has several joint mechanisms.

This mic is easily a 9 on a scale of 1 - 10 cosmetically speaking. It will make a very fine display piece in your vintage mic collection.

As with all my vintage microphones...
