Up for grabs here is a beautiful vintage late 1980’s Fender Japan 1952 RI Charcoal Burst Telecaster. It’s an E-Serial built for Fender at the renowned FujiGen factory. It was built and finished at FujiGen the day after Christmas Day, 1988 with the neck heel dating it to 29th september 1988 (pencil dated under clearcoat on neck heel). This is one of the coolest looking examples of a CCB we’ve had in the shop. The finish definition on this guitar is outstanding. These old FujiGen CCB Teles come up now and again but are pretty rare on the ground. They were designed & built by Fender Japan around 1988-90 then again briefly in 1995, long before the current relicing obsession kicked off. They’ve got a great worn and dirty look, which I remember thinking looked awesome back in the early 90’s when I first saw one. They were domestic to Japan only, and never exported. As mentioned earlier, this was built for Fender at FujiGen so you know you won’t find a better built Telecaster. It feels great to play, a good solid Tele weight at 3.4kg, very resonant, with equal measures warmth & brightness, which is all probably due to the (shock horror) American basswood body they used on these models, which some say could look a bit boring. Most definitely not the case here! This beautiful old Tele has got all the good stuff: a nicely worn in maple fingerboard, age-oxidised metal hardware bridge and 3 saddles, (USA) TL Vintage pickups, black 3-ply guard & F stamped neck plate. Neck is dead straight, truss rod fine, plenty of life left in the frets. Structurally and electrically sound. No issues at all. Plenty of playwear with bumps & blemishes, some scuffing on the back, all giving it a real authentic relic feel and look. The tone knob has a slightly uneven turn. Nothing bad has ever happened to it. It's getting pretty tough to pick these up now, and rarely do they look as good as this one. Complete with Telecaster hardcase and key. These were made in limited numbers and will never be made again. There aren’t many better looking CCB’s out there, go get it.
