Longer story....!
We are Eko specialists so I can say that it is near impossible to find a piece like this nearing 60 years with NO lacquer cracks!
Along with the limited edition purple celluloid pickguard and butterbean tuners we have here a rather special animal!
This one of the first editions of the Eko Ranger series, made in their Recanti factory, Italy circa 1967
This is not your average, commonplace and ubiquitous Ranger, which everyman and his dog does seem to play, this beauty has the extra distinguishing features which only appeared on the first luthier built 1960's versions. These are seldom seen for sale and very nice they are too….
so how to tell the differences?
∞ More solid build, better tone woods used with burled mahogany bod
∞ Silver or White (in this case) 3D black 'Eko' headstock 'bubble' logo
∞ Celluloid pickguard, later pieces were acrylic
∞ Serial number stamped on neck plate
These features were only used for a couple of years or so from 1967 onwards then the design was gradually changed in the 70's and in some ways downgraded.
There are non of the usual lacquer checks present, very common to these guitars, so that really is refreshing! and rare to see.
Overall cosmetic condition is excellent with an overall smooth and shiny appearance, there are occasional weatherings, yet nothing that goes through the lacquer, its in fine shape for the year
The only appreciable level of wear is pictured around the edge of the pickguard, we've left this character feature however it could be easily smoothed out if required.
Overall structural condition is also very good with no apparent repairs.
The bridge is not lifting or bellied as such, yet there is a bridge doctor installed so that will counterbalance this effect seen on many vintage 12's
The playing action is currently set pretty low and the guitar plays with a smooth and mellow tone and projection. These are not 'loud' guitars, and we fit light gauge strings anyway, as recommended for guitars of these era.
The setup can be altered in the usual ways - adjustable bridge and truss rod present and correct.
Frets are in good shape throughout, the first couple of frets are recent replacements.
This is a nigh 60 year old guitar so don't expect perfection, yet to find a better one then you could be waiting for another 60!
A good quality hard case included in sale as is UK shipping. For our American and European friends the usual shipping discounts have been applied and we will ensure all taxes paid and guitar delivered with NO extra charges!
We have fully overhauled and refurbished this guitar, its ready to play!
