This is a Mattisson Janek Gwizdala signature 6-string bass, meticulously hand-built by master luthier Anders Mattisson in his Swedish workshop. A premium instrument designed to deliver the modern, articulate, and deeply musical tones that define Janek’s world-renowned bass playing.

This bass together with the headless were built to my specs and I had the honor to watch the master finalizing it during my trip to his shop. The headless is not for sale, but this one is now.

The sonic foundation begins with a premium walnut body and walnut top delivering warmth, clarity, and punchy midrange with natural articulation. This is complemented by a carefully selected ash tone block that enhances sustain, brightness, and snap—critical for the percussive slap tones and harmonic definition Janek is known for. The 3-piece neck (ash & maple) provides structural stability while introducing tonal balance: maple’s brightness pairs with ash’s resonance to create a neck that transmits clarity and sustain to every note.

The ebony fingerboard offers superior tonal transfer and adds that premium feel and visual beauty Swedish craftsmanship is known for.

Topped with Aguilar Super Double Slanted pickups renowned for their articulate, singing response and modern clarity, this bass captures every nuance.
The custom preamp designed and built by Anders Mattisson himself ensures seamless integration with the wood, resulting in a cohesive, organic tone that responds beautifully to technique across all styles: slap, fingerstyle, pick, and tapping.
