The distinctive green DL4 is one of the most influential delay and looping pedals ever produced. It combines a broad collection of modeled vintage and modern delay sounds with three programmable presets, tap tempo, stereo operation, expression-pedal control, and an intuitive onboard loop sampler.

This listing includes the DL4 pedal only. A power supply, batteries, original box, manual, and other accessories are not included.

History of Line 6

Line 6 emerged in 1996 as one of the pioneering companies in digital guitar-amplifier and effects modeling. Its first major product was the AxSys 212 modeling amplifier, followed by products such as the Flextone, Amp Farm, and the highly successful POD processor. These products helped make modeled amplifier, cabinet, and effect sounds practical for recording musicians and performing guitarists without requiring large collections of vintage equipment.  

The company later expanded its modeling technology into a family of dedicated stompboxes, including the DL4 Delay Modeler, MM4 Modulation Modeler, FM4 Filter Modeler, and DM4 Distortion Modeler.

History and Influence of the DL4

Introduced around 1999–2000, the original DL4 became the best-known member of Line 6’s Stompbox Modeler family. Its combination of multiple delay algorithms, preset storage, tap tempo, stereo connectivity, and live looping was unusually comprehensive for its era.  

The pedal became especially important because its loop sampler could be controlled directly through four footswitches without navigating screens or menus. That immediacy made the DL4 useful not only to guitarists but also to vocalists, violinists, keyboard players, bassists, drummers, and experimental performers.

The original DL4 remained in production for approximately two decades with few major changes, becoming sufficiently recognizable that musicians often referred to it simply as the “Big Green Monster.” Line 6 now classifies the original DL4 as a discontinued legacy product.
