This is a vintage Normandy Model 7 wooden clarinet. It is an intermediate level clarinet and made in France. The clarinet was made in 1958 and has a serial number in the 14XXX range. Note that the Model 7 clarinet featured all wooden top and bottom joints and a wooden barrel. The bell, however was a composite mix of material: the outer part of the bell featured a wood veneer finish (you can see the wood grain), but the rest of the bell was a hard resin polymer like bakelite. Please note that no mouthpiece is included. You will have to provide a mouthpiece.
Some background on Normandy: The Normandy line of clarinets dates back to the 1950's. Many models were produced over the years. The Normandy line of clarinets eventually became a part of the Leblanc line of clarinets in 1978. They continued as Normandy clarinets until 2004 when Leblanc became acquired by Selmer/Conn and dissolved the Normandy clarinet line.
It comes in the original case that is functional but shows wear and tear. The case handle was broken off and has been replaced with a latch clip style strap handle. The case's open/close latches work fine. Due to the wear and tear to the case, I am grading this clarinet as in 'Good' condition.
The clarinet itself shows some minor scratches on the wood surface as one would expect for a clarinet this old. Most of the keys exhibit plate wear. This is most notably on the upper joint Ab/G# key, the upper joint A key, the upper joint bottom two trill keys, the lower joint bottom 4 crow's foot keys, bottom joint spatula keys, and most of the ring keys. But they still feel comfortable to the touch. No pitting has occurred on the key finish. Due to the plate loss on most of the keys, I am grading this clarinet as in 'Good' condition.
No cracks or crack repairs to the wood bodies are present to my visual observation. Both upper and lower joint have matching serial numbers in the 14XXX series.
The clarinet has been serviced on 6/12/2026 for a cleaning - oiling - and adjustment service (COA). In addition, all pads have been replaced. Also, one cork tenon was replaced, key bumpers were replaced as needed, and keys were polished as needed. The clarinet bore was treated with bore oil and the Normandy logos were refreshed with gold coloring.
The clarinet has been play tested and all notes can be played. No leaky pads. All cork tenons maintain a good fit.
Final comments: Please be wary of pricing and listings of Normandy clarinets. Many listings will advertise a Normandy clarinet as wood but the pictures will show a hard plastic resin clarinet. Also, many listings will show a Normandy clarinet, but only show the pictures of the clarinet in the case. Too get a good idea of a clarinet's condition and composition (wood vs plastic), you should see all the pieces. Some Normandy models had both plastic barrels and plastic or composition (wood and plastic) bells. Without seeing these up close in pictures, you won't be able to tell what is what. I try to be as transparent as possible with the description and provide enough pictures for the buyer to make a good evaluation.
