Up for sale is a beautiful vintage Harmony H76, the top-of-the-line three-pickup hollowbody from Harmony’s Chicago heyday. This is the same guitar (in sunburst) as the H78 made famous by Dan Auerbach, Jenn Wasner, Brittany Howard, and a generation of players who discovered there’s no substitute for vintage DeArmond Gold Foils.

This one is a player’s guitar — set up, intonated, ready to record or gig out of the box.

The Mod That Matters:

Bridge has been upgraded to a Nashville-style tune-o-matic in place of the original Harmony bridge. This is the single best mod you can do to one of these guitars — it gives you proper intonation across all six strings (the original bridge has limited compensation), better string-to-string balance, and rock-solid tuning stability with the Bigsby. Returns to pitch every time. Reversible if a future owner wants to go back to stock.

Condition:

Great vintage condition, plays beautifully. All electronics original and fully functional — every pickup, switch, and pot works as it should. Frets have life left, neck is straight, action is set low and clean. No structural issues, no cracks, no repairs. Honest wear consistent with a 50+ year old guitar that’s been loved and played.

Sound:

This is what people are chasing when they buy a vintage Harmony. The Gold Foils have that unmistakable chimey, percussive midrange — clean tones jangle and sparkle, dirty tones snarl with personality that modern pickups simply can’t replicate. The three-pickup configuration gives you seven usable pickup combinations, which is more tonal range than any humbucker guitar will ever offer. Through a clean amp it’s a country/jazz/soul machine. Through anything pushed, it’s pure garage/blues/indie magic.
