For your consideration is a Harman Kardon 430 Twin Powered Stereo Receiver from 1975 in great condition. Cosmetically I would conservatively rate it 8.5 out of 10, for sound 10 out of 10 clean pristine sound on all inputs/outputs/functions/switches/buttons. SEE FULL DETAILS BELOW AND REVIEW ALL PHOTOS CAREFULLY TO EVALUATE CONDITION.
If you're here, you probably already know but this is a legendary receiver with big, warm clean sound far beyond its rated 25 watts per channel. These units are renowned for their twin amplifier transformers and classic sound. In an era where most companies were chasing more watts, Harman Kardon engineers focused on other metrics to improve sound at lower wattage delivering sound quality that exceeds its power rating and price point, making it a coveted item among collectors and music lovers.
If you like that Harman Kardon "look", this one has it. I don't think a better looking receiver has been made. This thing looks slick, even in rooms with modern decor. You can't beat the style of this receiver and it has the goods under the hood to match.
There are a few light marks on the face and side aluminum trim pieces and 2 small dings in the bottom face edge. Review all photos for physical condition assessment, I have photographed all imperfections. The cover does have some noticeable discretion and one inch long gouge, zoom photos. This is one of the nicest HK 430 I have owned and I have owned several over the years.
All dial lights, stereo and dial pointer bulbs have been replaced with LEDs, a much more reliable option. All pots/switches treated with appropriate deoxit d5 or f5, all functions sound pristine and clear at all levels. All noisy transistors (8 total) replaced in power supply board for reliable performance with modern equivalents. Bias has been set to factory soecifications.
The FM receiver works great and the unit sounds amazing even in my rural part of the country, an attached antenna helps being in further away stations. It will blow the roof off the house if you want it to, the sound fills the room and stays clean no matter the media or the volume. I strongly recommend playing with "contour" button engaged to hear the full potential of any Harman Kardon from this era, it is truly a warm, bright, clean sound.
This truly is an incredible piece of equipment, these models really do live up to their sterling reputation and this is an opportunity to own a really nice HK 430.
