This is labor of love that resulted in satisfaction. I would keep it but - you know about thinning the herd. The swamp ash body was finished just right to fill gaps and leave its nice open grain texture. The body was selected from an online store (I forget) and final sanded and finished with yellow orange stain then completed with wipe on poly and progressively sanded to a smooth satin finish. There are a couple blems on the side the are in the photos. The Allparts neck has its own well known qualities and is a perfect match to the body. On the neck, the tuning machines are Schaller and the headstock and back of the neck was carefully finished with layers of Tru Oil varnish and final sanded to smooth. The pickup selection includes the Fralin single coil at the neck position, and a Gretsch humbucker at the bridge position. This Gretsch pup was lifted from the early Electromatic 2210 bass and has a very solid and punchy response tonally. The surround on the Gretsch pup is 2-ply, allowing a bit of a thumb anchor. The top ply is nice British mother of pearl. My control plate includes a 3-way switch - neck pup (ON), blend, and bridge pup (ON). There is a conventional tone pot and cap under the knob on the plate. If I were to tweak the controls I would re-do the switch part and wiring. I'm feeling a dominant Gretsch humbucker (which is nice!) but it could use a bit of quality checking for the sake of pickup separation. The subtleties of the Fralin pup are a thing of beauty and need to be forward on call. Hope you enjoy looking.
