1970s Univox Hi-Flier Phase III – Sunburst
Up for sale is a really clean Univox Hi-Flier Phase III in the classic Sunburst finish.
If you're looking at this listing, you probably already know the story. The Hi-Flier became a cult classic thanks in part to Kurt Cobain, who used several Univox Hi-Fliers throughout his career and helped put these quirky Japanese offsets on the map.
This one is a particularly nice example. The neck has beautiful figuring and is smooth up and down with no significant dings or damage on the back. It feels great in the hand and plays exactly the way you'd hope a vintage Hi-Flier would.
Cosmetically, the guitar shows honest wear from nearly 50 years of life: some light buckle rash on the back, a few small dings and scrapes around the body, and the typical signs of age you'd expect from a vintage instrument. Nothing major, and overall it presents exceptionally well. It's cleaner than most Hi-Fliers I've come across.
The guitar is all original with the exception of one string tree.
A great-playing, great-sounding vintage Japanese guitar that's getting harder to find in this kind of condition. Whether you're a collector, a Nirvana fan, or just someone who appreciates cool vintage guitars, this is a fantastic example of a Phase III.
Feel free to reach out with any questions or if you'd like additional photos or measurements.
