Here is a very nice bass made by Tune. It is a natural finish 5 string bass with Bartolini actives. It's had some use, but still plays and sounds great. We took this in on a trade and see that some of the truss rod cover screws were missing, telling us that maybe the person adjusted the truss rod. Well, either way it seems straight and plays fine. We didn't know much about Tune basses, but this is what we found online:

Tune makes several highly regarded bass models manufactured in Korea, including the TWB (available in 4, 5, and 6-string variations), Bass Maniac Standard, SWV, and the Supernova Zi. These instruments feature exotic wood tops, neck-through or bolt-on construction, and custom active preamps. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6]For a closer look at the sound and design of Korean-made Tune basses, here is a breakdown of the TWB5T 5-string model:Differences Between Korean and Japanese Tune Basses

  • Origins: Original Tune Guitar Technology basses were manufactured in Osaka, Japan. Production later expanded to, and was fully continued by, Woosung Chorus Co. (WSC) in Korea, which resulted in two separate arms of the company.
  • Collectibility: Japanese models from the 1980s are highly prized among collectors. Korean models are often viewed as more affordable or budget-friendly, though they still feature high-quality hardware and exotic woods.
  • Identification: Korean Tune basses often have printed serial numbers with a long string of characters, whereas older Japanese models feature stamped serial numbers and specific neck-joint cuts.
  • Based on the formatting of your serial number (S050911163), your instrument is a Korean-manufactured TUNE bass built in September 2005.
  • S: Stands for the Samick factory (or a specialized Korean contract facility) where Korean-market TUNE basses were built.

Features of This Era:

Because your bass was built in 2005, it features a few distinct characteristics from the original 1980s/1990s Japanese models:

  • Hardware: Rather than the stamped "TUNE Stainless Steel" Japanese bridge, Korean models typically feature a solid die-cast bridge, sometimes bearing a simpler engraved TUNE logo or no text at all.
  • Electronics: It most likely features internal active preamps and pickups labeled explicitly as TUNE Guitar Technology.
  • 05: Identifies the year of manufacture (2005).
  • 09: Identifies the month of manufacture (September).
  • 11163: The specific, sequential production unit number from that batch. [1, 2]
