Beautiful and rare ca. 1970 Epiphone ET-270 (1802T) made in Japan. Hard to date exactly, but I believe only the earliest models had the 'E' inlay between pickups.
This is the same model that Kurt Cobain used as early as 1990. He was seen using it live and in the In Bloom music video during the Bleach era.
This finish is vibrant red, but shows nice wood grain. The switch next to the pickups is a "dark switch" that has more mids and bass in the ton. The headstock and pickguard show the Epiphone logos in mother of pearl.
It has a great tone, and the dark switch makes it versatile, switching between a thinner vintage sound, and a fuller, somewhat humbucker tone.
Overall condition is super clean. There was a small crack at the neck that has been fixed, and there are some dings and a couple small chips (shown), which is expected of a ~55 year old instrument. We could call it naturally relic'd.
I cleaned de-oxidized all the hardware and installed copper tape to shield the pickups. I also installed a tapered neck shim to help keep the action lower, as the bridge is non adjustable.
The original frets still have some life left, but they show wear as is expected on a vintage guitar. Though I added shielding to the electronics cavity, the shielding tape I put in is removable, so that upgrade is easily reversible if you prefer it completely spec. I also replace the tone capacitor because the old one was visibly in poor shape, though it measure correctly, I was worried about voltage leak/noise.
