TEISCO DG-67 (Serial 300790) – Rare Japan Vintage Electric Guitar
Estimated Production: 1967
This listing is for a TEISCO DG-67 electric guitar, serial number 300790.
The DG-67 is one of the rarer late-period TEISCO models and is seldom seen even within Japan. While it exhibits the quirky construction methods, unique design elements, and occasional roughness commonly associated with vintage Japanese bizarre guitars, it remains an excellent example of the creativity and character that made TEISCO famous among collectors worldwide.
TEISCO manufactured electric guitars, basses, amplifiers, synthesizers, and other musical equipment from 1948 until 1985. Their distinctive styling, innovative switching systems, and unconventional engineering continue to attract collectors and players today.
The DG-67 was produced only for a relatively short period during the later TEISCO era.
Following TEISCO's merger with Kawai Musical Instruments in December 1966, the company was reorganized as Teisco Shoji. The DG-67 was one of the first new products released under this new organization.
Interestingly, early advertisements published in Japanese trade magazines during May and June 1967 identified the model as the DG-64. Beginning with the July 1967 issue, the model name was changed to DG-67.

Preservation Philosophy
To preserve as much originality as possible, no unnecessary restoration or modifications have been performed.
The guitar was completely disassembled for cleaning and inspection. Components were cleaned individually and reinstalled while maintaining the original electronic configuration wherever possible.
The goal of this work was preservation rather than restoration.
Electronic Maintenance Performed
During inspection, scratchiness was present in the tone potentiometer and output jack.
Because the components are approximately 60 years old, all wiring was temporarily removed to allow proper cleaning.
Maintenance performed includes:
- Tone potentiometer disassembled internally
- Carbon track cleaned using electronic contact cleaner
- Contact conditioner applied
- Wiper contacts polished
- Output jack polished and cleaned
- Pickup selector switches disassembled and internal contacts polished
The original wiring remains installed.
Due to the original manufacturing methods and age of the instrument, some wire insulation appears partially heat-affected from the factory soldering process performed decades ago.
To preserve originality, the wiring was not replaced.
Please note that original solder joints were necessarily removed during servicing and reassembled afterward.
Although every effort has been made to clean and stabilize the electronics, occasional noise or scratchiness may still occur in vintage components.
Neck, Frets & Playability
The frets show normal wear consistent with decades of use.
Because the original frets are the narrow, low-profile type commonly found on vintage Japanese guitars of this era, no fret leveling was performed in order to preserve originality and avoid excessive material removal.
The frets were polished to improve appearance.
The fret edges originally exhibited significant sharpness.
Only minimal dressing was performed to improve playing comfort while preserving originality.
Several frets showed slight lifting during inspection:
- 1st string side: 2nd fret
- 1st string side: 3rd fret
- 6th string side: 20th fret
These areas were carefully stabilized using a very small amount of adhesive and gentle seating.
Buzzing and choking associated with these frets have been substantially improved.
However, due to the age of the instrument and potential vibration during shipping, future adjustment may eventually be required by the next owner.
Tuners
The original vintage tuners remain installed.
The tuners were cleaned and lubricated during maintenance.
All tuners function and hold tuning; however, several tuners remain somewhat stiff to turn due to age and wear. The stiffness does not currently prevent normal tuning operation.
No tuner replacement was performed in order to preserve the originality of the instrument.
Future servicing or replacement may be desired depending on the next owner's preferences.
Wood Condition
A small crack is present in the fingerboard surface around the 3rd fret area.
Another age-related crack is present near one of the neck mounting screw locations.
The neck remains securely attached and functions normally.
No structural instability is currently observed.
Cosmetic Condition
- Original headstock logo is missing
- Original pickguard is missing
The body exhibits finish checking and lacquer cracking throughout, consistent with a vintage instrument of this age.
Numerous scratches, dents, finish wear, paint loss, and signs of use are present throughout the guitar.
These cosmetic characteristics are considered part of the instrument's vintage character.
Please note that Reverb allows a maximum of 25 photos.
Additional cosmetic imperfections may exist beyond those shown in the photos.
Photos 22 through 25 document the instrument before and during maintenance work.
Neck Relief
Neck relief was evaluated by fretting the first and final fret and observing string clearance.
Current condition:
Treble Side (1st String Side)
- Almost straight with a very slight forward bow
Bass Side (6th String Side)
- Almost straight with a very slight back bow
The guitar currently plays without significant buzzing or choking.
Please note that neck conditions may change during shipping or due to climate differences in the destination country.
