Meris have given their beloved Ottobit Jr. and 500 Series module the X treatment with the Ottobit X, a one-stop-shop for all your glitchy needs. Presented in full stereo, this pedal expands the bit-crushing we've all come to expect from the Ottobit, adding six different Glitch effects, three Filters, four Preamp types, and five Pitch modulations, as well as Ambience and Modulation options. This is a robust pedal that works great in tandem with your board or as an all-in-one creative toolkit.

The Glitch options give you the classic Stutter effect with mappable sub-division control, Grain Freeze, Tape Stop, Stutter Step, and two 1-button loopers. The loopers offered are a Push Loop that is a fairly standard looper, but the Wikki Wikki looper is a looper that adds a unique Scratch parameter that can be assigned to an external Expression pedal, an internal modulation source, or assigned to the main Level knob. With Wikki Wikki, you can manipulate the playback the same as you would a vinyl record, and you get a Brake and Backspin option that will add instant flavor to your loop. All of the Glitch options benefit greatly from the internal modulation sources, of which there are five: LFO A and B, Envelope, S&H, and a Sequencer.

Glitch isn't the only category that offers dramatic and satisfying effects—the Preamp section comes festooned with 4 different options that add warmth with the Tube option, adds a nostalgic texture with the Vinyl mode, obliterates your signal with the Wavefolder, or have a tasteful entrance with the Volume Pedal option. The Pitch Shift options are bountiful, offering a fully polyphonic pitch shifter, the harmonizing pitch shifter from Hedra, a monophonic pitchshifter, and two variations of the Ottobit Jr. pitch shifter, giving you lo-fi pitch shifting and micro stereo detuning. Adjust everything with the built-in Filter section that lets you dial in the right frequencies.

If all of that wasn't enough, the Ottobit X also has a dedicated Ambience section which gives you two VHS-inspired effects: Delay and Reverb. Both have a unique tape texture that adds a delightful bit of grit which blends perfectly with every setting. Lastly, a Modulate section gives you a Ring Mod directly from the 500 series module, a sequenced tremolo that has been developed exclusively for the Ottobit X, a tape player emulation for warbling textures, a frequency shifter, and a rotating speaker. With so many options to explore and combinations to be had, the Ottobit X from Meris is quite possibly the most creative and versatile pedal on the market.
