Personal Thoughts:
This is a very cool Dealer Select Custom Shop piece and a great take on one of Gibson’s most distinctive early Les Paul specs. The ’54 Les Paul Custom has always had a special appeal because it feels a bit more refined and elegant than a standard Goldtop, but still has that raw early-P-90-era character underneath. The big draw here is obviously the staple pickup in the neck. That is such a huge part of the identity of these guitars, giving the neck position a really clear, piano-like and articulate voice that feels very different to a normal P-90 or humbucker-loaded Les Paul. Paired with the bridge P-90, it makes for a very expressive and unusual setup. The TV White finish suits the model perfectly too, as it gives it that classy vintage-custom look that works so well on a Les Paul Custom. A very desirable Historic Custom Shop build and one that feels a bit more special than the more common late-’50s reissue route.
