I have a 2023 Gibson Adam Jones Signature Les Paul here, with its hard shell case and paperwork.
Conditionally, this guitar looks VG with some playwear that I will describe for you.
The body top looks excellent. I found just a little bit of soft surface swirling scattered here and there, a little bit by the control knobs. Tiny little bit of guitar pick strumming. But no notable marks or any accumulation of any heavy or medium playwear. The nitro finish looks attractive throughout on this guitar.
The body sides/edges show a small indentation bump about 2 to 3 mm in size. I see a scattering of soft superficial swirling type signs of usage similar to what I described on the body top. But no buckle rash or any accumulation or built up sheen of soft swirling.
The body back has some light to average playwear. I'm seeing some surface line shaped little scuff marks that are similar to if you have a guitar pick that leaves a little rubbing mark on the surface of the finish. There are a few horizontal marks like that. But I did not find any deep penetrating scratches or anything I would constitute as buckle rash or worming. There are a couple small patches of surface swirling. There is a general scattering of surface swirling here and there. And I found about a handful or so of insignificant micro surface dot sized indentations that do not break the finish. These are about 1 mm or smaller, perhaps even the size of a dull pencil tip. And then a couple similar surface indentations that are a little bit bigger, about a millimeter.
The neck shaft contour feels and looks very good, with nothing really describable going on there. There is one area to point out. On the edge of the nut, there is a little bit of seaming around where the nut was installed in the finish. This commonly happens to Gibson guitars. On the left side, there is a tiny little micro surface hairline crack that is about six or seven mm in size. It's not structural. It doesn't go down to the wood. In fact, it does not even go all the way through the finish. The nut install is solid. There are no cracks in the wood or the headstock. The Gibson nut has a reputation for being a little bit sloppy around the finished area of the edges. And that's pretty much what this is. The Custom Shop models don't have that, but the Standard Series guitars do. So not a huge deal. I've enclosed a couple really close up pictures so you can see how this looks.
The frets are tall and full, showing no fret wear. The setup plays fantastic. I have fine tuned it to my satisfaction. And it has a nice moderately low action and plays well with no buzzing. The original electronics are working like they should. The case is in excellent condition.
So this one rates an 8.3/10 and grades as very good. Not on the higher most side of very good. But still a nice looking guitar, as the pictures portray. I found light to average surface signs of playwear on the body back. The body top looks great, more along the lines of excellent. And there is a little bit of micro finish wear along each side of the nut, as noted. The guitar is structurally and sonically sound and plays and sounds great. And I am able to move this one at a pretty good price point that I think is a good value for this model.
It is based on a 1979 Les Paul Custom Silverburst. This iteration of it retains that cool look. The neck feels Fairly slim maybe a little chunkier than a Les Paul Classic but barely so.
Lastly the noteworthy feature here is a true ebony wood fretboard. Ebony is somewhat underused by Gibson. It is mostly on Custom's and not on the Standard line instruments. Ebony has a tonality that is focused and contributes to clarity and note separation. It has a clear, coo, smooth tonality to it that pairs and counterbalances mahogany perfectly. My perception of it over the years is that it lets you hear more of the body and neck woods and the pickups. It is the "articulation" fretboard wood.
So this is a great guitar by all measures and a more affordable alternative to a Les Paul Custom.
Note that this listing may come down at anytime. I am a multi-platform seller and do sell locally as well in an effort to keep sales fluid. State sales tax will be charged on Reverb sales when applicable, so factor that in to your purchase.
I will immaculately pack it as well. I use quality shipping boxes, ample tape on all sides. And sufficient bubble wrap filler and bracing inside the box. And always Marked/denoted as fragile. I generally detune guitars 1/2 half step prior to shipment as well if needed.
Thank you for reading and considering!
