Gibson Moderne (2012)

A rare and highly collectible Gibson Moderne has arrived.

This example was manufactured in 2012, representing Gibson's modern reissue of one of its most legendary and elusive designs.

Originally conceived alongside the Flying V and Explorer during Gibson's radical late-1950s "Modernistic" series, the Moderne became one of the most mysterious guitars in Gibson history. While the Flying V and Explorer entered production, the original Moderne never reached widespread release, earning near-mythical status among collectors. Gibson first revisited the design in 1982, and this 2012 model marks a later reissue of that iconic shape.

Many Japanese players may also recognize the Moderne through its association with guitarist and producer Ryosuke Nagaoka.

The guitar features the distinctive "split-head" Moderne headstock and the unmistakable asymmetrical body shape, which appears almost like a Flying V reimagined through a more experimental lens. Despite its bold appearance, the body is relatively thin and lightweight, resulting in an open, resonant acoustic character and excellent playing comfort.

Equipped with a pair of Gibson '57 Classic humbuckers, the Moderne delivers articulate, responsive tones with plenty of clarity and vintage-inspired character. Whether played clean or through overdriven amplifiers, it offers a crisp, dynamic voice that complements its unique aesthetics.

The Moderne has long maintained a devoted cult following, and examples rarely appear on the market. For players and collectors searching for one of Gibson's most fascinating designs, this is a rare opportunity.

Our repair department has fully serviced and professionally set up the instrument.
