Ron Kirn Custom Strat — Paulownia Body, Nitro Finish, Blender Wiring — Rare Opportunity
Ron Kirn is one of the most respected boutique guitar builders in the country, with a devoted following among discerning players who've moved past production instruments. He builds a limited number of guitars each year from his Jacksonville, FL shop, and used examples rarely come up for sale. This is one of them.
For those unfamiliar with his work, his reputation speaks for itself on the major guitar forums — see the dedicated communities at tdpri.com and strat-talk.com.
This guitar was built to my specs in 2012 and represents everything Ron is known for: meticulous fretwork, genuine nitrocellulose lacquer finish, premium components.
Specs:
- Body: one-piece Paulownia (lightweight, resonant).
- Total weight: 6.4 pounds!
- Finish: clear amber nitro, semi-transparent, wood grain fully visible — stunning in person
- Back-routed, no pickguard
- Neck: USACG '63 profile, maple with rosewood fingerboard, 1-11/16" nut, compound 10-16 radius, 6150 frets
- Tuners: Schaller locking, staggered
- Bridge: Wilkinson VS100 tremolo (push-in arm)
- Pickups: Ron Kirn's own
- Wiring: blender circuit, which allows the neck pickup to be blended in at any position for additional tonal variety
- Recessed output jack (a signature Kirn detail)
- Professionally set up in NYC last week and strung with fresh 10s
Condition: plays and sounds great. There is a small cosmetic spot in the finish above the pickup selector (nitro shrinkage into the wood grain — per Ron, entirely normal with genuine nitro). There's a close-up photo of it.
Includes: MBT case and Ron's setup/care booklet.
