J.W. York & Sons Company cornet, serial 108179, Grand Rapids, Michigan, circa 1935. Bell engraved “YORK / GRAND RAPIDS / MICH” with full floral/foliate pattern. Valve casing stamped “PAT. APLD. FOR” — referencing York’s patented piston design of the early 1930s, featuring double-ported valves intended to improve airflow and response.
Finish & Appearance:
Silver plate throughout with honest age-related wear — patina and plating loss at slide ferrules and tubing, light scratching on bell exterior. Bell interior retains original gold wash. Original pearl valve tops intact. Red decorative finger buttons present on valve stems. Not a refinished example — all original.
Playability:
Valves move freely. Slides are free. Plays nicely. Genuinely ready to use.
What’s Included:
Cornet only. No mouthpiece. No case.
