Slingerland model 203 12 lug Spitfire 5x14” COB Snare Drum 1979 - Chrome Over Brass

This is a very rare snare drum. 

This is a TDR model Slingerland Snare Drum, which you could see in the 1979 Slingerland catalog called a “Spitfire” model 203 12 lug chrome over brass 5 x 14” which was only available by special order. This did not come with any kits.

This is indeed, a very, very rare drum

It’s got a chrome plated, brass shell, and it has newer metal wire snares.

The 12 lug shells are absolutely fantastic for precision tuning.
You get extended life out of a head because you can fine tune it a little bit when the head starts dying from use a little bit too which is one of my favorite things about 12 lug drums.

I paid just under $1000 for this Drum when I bought it from the Seattle Symphonic Orchestra back in 2008.

The drum is equipped with a brand new Slingerland Logo Remo coated Ambassador batter head and a newer clear ambassador snare head on the resonant side.

The drum is complete.

Both the tone control and the throw off work incredibly well the TDR is the smoothest throw off system you’ll ever use. 

The Drum does have a very small dent in it now that I tried to picture it’s right next to one of the lugs. Apparently, when it was being used at the Seattle Symphony Orchestra, the snare stand got knocked over somehow and it’s had that distance since, but it doesn’t affect the way that it sounds or plays at all.

A TDR throwoff system is unbeatable in my opinion. I’ve never played a throw off that comes close; this one works fantastically. It’s the Ferrari of throw off snare strainer systems if you’ve never used one.

I’m selling this Drum is cause I picked up a lacquer brass 12 lug magnum that is a little deeper that I prefer.
