Up for sale is a used, matching vintage pair of TOA Model 280-ME Multi-Eminent Reference Monitor Bookshelf Speakers.

First introduced by TOA Japan in the 1980s, the 280-ME monitors were highly regarded in professional project studios and broadcast environments for their compact size and flat, highly accurate reference response. Utilizing a high-end 3-way driver configuration—featuring a specialized polypropylene cone woofer, a dome midrange, and a fast-response tweeter—they were engineered to deliver an exceptionally analytical audio image.

Condition Notes (PLEASE READ - STRICTLY FOR PARTS OR REPAIR): This speaker pair is being offered explicitly AS-IS / FOR PARTS OR NOT FUNCTIONING. It is a dedicated project lot for an electronics hobbyist, vintage audio restorer, or speaker technician who wants a rare set of enclosures to rebuild or harvest for vintage Japanese components.

• Driver Damage: One of the main speaker cones is fully detached/blown and about to fall out entirely; it will literally leave the housing cabinet if the speaker is tipped forward. The drivers require complete re-foaming, reconing, or full replacement to be functional again.
• The Speaker Grilles: Both front fabric grilles are included, but the mounting pegs or retention clips are heavily worn out. The grilles come off very easily and do not snap firmly into place.
• Cosmetics: Shows considerable cosmetic damage all around the exterior wood-grain/vinyl cabinets. There is noticeable edge fraying, peeling laminate, chipped wood on the corners, and heavy scuffs/scratches from decades of storage and shelf wear (please see all detailed photos).
