This is a 1994 Burny LC-75 JS unofficial John Sykes Les Paul Custom, which was Burny's take on John Sykes famous black Les Paul custom with mirror pickguard & pickup rings, chrome hardware, brass nut, and open black humbuckers. This model was new in 1985 as part of "The Musicians Series" line which was part of the Revival Collection from Burny - and was made in Japan by the world famous Dyna Gakki factory.

This guitar has a date stamp inside the bridge pickup cavity of 41907, which indicates it was made in 1994 on July 19th. It also has the model number hand written below this date - LC-75 JS.

This model is very similar to the Burny RLC-70 model from the same time period, with the differences being:

  • Brass nut
  • open VH-1 John Sykes humbuckers (gold adjustable pole pieces on the neck, and double adjustable pole pieces on the bridge)
  • Mirror pickup rings
  • Mirror pickguard (missing)
  • Chrome hardware

Burny, along with Tokai in the mid 80's, were the only brands to offer a 2 pickup Les Paul Custom made with a full mahogany body and neck - like the earliest Gibson Les Paul Custom's were - in the sub 1000 level guitar range. The Aria Les Paul customs in the late 70's and early 80's had maple tops and maple necks, and were no longer making Les Paul's by 1990 - the Orville LPC's also had maple tops - Greco did make an EG58-100 in the early 80's along with a 3 pickup EG57-60 version - and Burny also made a 3 pickup version the RLC-65 '57.

So if you're looking for an all Mahogany construction John Sykes Les Paul Custom, this is one of your best options.

By 1990, Burny basically had VH-1 pickups installed on nearly all of their Gibson models - which is a good thing, since these pickups sound fantastic, and can cover almost any genre well. The ones in this model are called VH-1JF and VH-1JR humbuckers - indicating John Sykes front and rear. The neck pickup has gold adjustable pole pieces, and the bridge pickup has double adjustable nickel pole pieces, similar to the Dirty Finger John used in his Les Paul custom.

With a slightly hot PAF wind in and around 8.21K to 8.32K ohm range, they use a polished Alnico magnet. They can clean up when you roll off the volume, but can easily push your amp into break up. The VH-1's are one of the many great sounding PAF or modern PAF style pickups to come out of Japan in that era. From what I can tell, even thogh the bridge pickup uses double adjustable pole pieces, it still sounds very much like the "typical" VH-1 humbuckers.

This guitar arrived to me with the pickguard and bracket missing, some locking strap buttons installed, the tone knobs broken, and the tailpiece studs mismatched. I installed a pair of tone knobs from my parts bin (vintage Japanese), as well as a pair of chrome tailpiece studs from my parts bin (also vintage Japanese), and left the strap buttons as they were.

Other than those items, everything else on this guitar appears to be original, and this guitar is in good players grade condition.

Like most vintage gloss black guitars, this one has lots of scratches and swirling in the finish all over the guitar, along with a a few dents, dings and chips here and there. Gloss black is by far the hardest colour to keep looking brand new - it shows ever little mark. But overall, this one has lots of mojo - it has been played, a lot, but not abused.

The chrome hardware has is all in good shape with only minor areas of tarnish, pitting, corrosion, plate peeling, and/or rust, and there is still lots of shine left, everything works as expected, and overall it has a consistent patina.

The neck has a nice medium C carve to it - it's really comfortable to play, staring out at 22.3mm at the 1st fret and ending up at a thick 23.7mm by the 12th fret, so the taper is quite gradual on this neck.

These RLC models came with rosewood fretboard that were dyed black (Ebony) from the factory. This dye can wear off over time, but this one is in great shape, with very little play wear or fading to the fretboard dye.

The 22 narrow frets have been played but not much, and overall there's not much play wear on these frets and this guitar plays very well up and down the entire neck.

All the guitars I sell, I test, thoroughly clean, and setup completely before I list them. Anything that is missing, damaged, or non original is mentioned in the listing.

I setup all my Gibson style guitars to Gibson factory specs - including neck relief, action, pickup height, intonation, and tailpiece height. So this guitar will be ready to play out of the box (after you tune it up - I ship my guitars with the strings loosened).

Comes with what appears to be the original black leather/vinly gig bag. It's in used condition, and has a rip at the bottom by the lower strap button, but it still functions as it should.

Overall, this is classic guitar you'll love to rip Whitesnake riffs on! It plays well, looks awesome, is built really well, and just sounds good.

You'll want this 1994 Burny LC-75 JS in your collection today.

CONDITION ------------

Overall it's in good player grade shape.

I've tried to capture all of the flaws in the photos and in the description.

The pickguard and pickguard bracket are missing. The screw holes to attached the pickguard bracket are still there on this guitar.

The tone knobs, tailpiece studs, and strap buttons are not original.

There are many scuffs, scratches, swirling, dings, dents, and chips in the finish all over the guitar.

There is a large bump in the finish on the lower back edge of the bottom side by the jack plate.

There are some dings in the finish on the top of the body on the bass side.

There are scratches on the back of the headstock between the tuners.

There is buckle rash on the back of the body.

There is one minor scratch in the finish on the back of the neck.

All of the black and chrome/mirror plastics have typical scratches and swirling on them.

The chrome hardware has is all in good shape with only minor areas of tarnish, pitting, corrosion, plate peeling, and/or rust, and there is still lots of shine left, everything works as expected, and overall it has a consistent patina.

All of the chrome Gotoh sealed tuners work properly.

Around the strap buttons there's strap marks/swirling.

The frets have been played but not much so there is very little play wear on these frets, and overall the frets have lots of life left in them, and the guitar plays well up and down the entire neck.

The truss rod works as expected, with room in both directions although it's tight to move (it has been lubricated).

There's no sign of a heel or headstock repair, or any other major structural repair.
