This Epiphone Newport EBS-6 is one of the rarest electric instruments made made by Gibson. According to shipping ledgers, only 21 were ever shipped, 10 in 1962, 7 in 1963, and 4 in 1965. It is likely the 4 from 1965 have a different body and headstock style but we have never seen one. Of the 17 from '62 and '63 we have seen 4. This one, and we have another in our "store collection" that's not for sale. Jay Rosen has one a couple of years ago that had an added second pickup, and then there is one photographed in Geddy Lee's bass book. If you have one or know of another, let us know as we are curioius what happened to the rest!
This example shows play wear and finish checking but is in nice condition overall. There are no cracks or repairs at the neck joint or headstock. There is a minor repair to one of the headstock wings which was delaminating and has been addressed. The parts are all original including the PAF mini humbucker. The knobs are 60's epiphone knobs but we are not sure if they are original to this instrument as we have never seen this style knobs so early. The string cover is missing and there are two extra holes from a thumb rest that was added. The finish is original with no overspray. The bass weighs just 6 pounds 10 ounces. This one is currently setup as a 6 string bass but can also be strung up as a baritone guitar. It has been pro-setup in our store and is in excellent playing condition. It comes with the original case in the pictures.
