***
The Forty Four is one of the original designs at Island Instruments, and inspired by the Harmony H44 Stratotone. The compact body makes it comfortable to hold, and the feel on the rosewood neck is a delight. The overall reclaimed aesthetic of this guitar is appealing, and the there is a sort of kintsugi vibe to the gold-filled fissure in the top. The headless, fan fret design at the outset may feel incompatible with the warm and rustic vibe going on otherwise, but it comes together so nicely. The pernambuco mosaic top is especially cool, and a nice use of a rare wood. I have to note the solid rosewood neck again, which is both luxurious and a pleasure to play. The details are nice down to the frets, EVO gold, which are no longer available. A very special Forty Four from Island Instruments.
