PRODUCT DESCRIPTION:

Outstanding Saxophone for Advancing Players

Designed for advancing players, the Yamaha YTS-480 is equipped with features that meet the needs of students moving beyond their first saxophone and into a rewarding future in music. Constructed from yellow brass in the Yamaha 62 body style with a two-piece bell and two-point brace, the YTS-480 is designed with optimal durability to keep it out of the shop and in your hands. Likewise, an ergonomically focused sound design allows for intuitive playing, keeping your focus on the music rather than the technique. Moreover, with a host of pro-level attributes, the YTS-480 can grow with you as you continue to refine your playing style. When you're ready for the next step in your saxophone journey, the Yamaha YTS-480 is here to accompany you.

Thoughtful ergonomics and responsive keywork

A horn crafted with more than just the basics in mind, the YTS-480 is based on the classic Yamaha 62 body style and incorporates thoughtful ergonomics designed to stay out of your way and let you focus fully on the music. The inclusion of the High F# key and a teardrop Front F key gives you additional tools to master more advanced repertoire, both in the classroom and on your own. Sax players have found that with the YTS-480's octave key joint, transitioning between the upper and lower registers of the horn becomes seamless, providing a quick, consistent response with every thumb press. Meanwhile, a comfortable left-hand seesaw key and an improved low B-C# connection mechanism smooth out transitions for more efficiency during fast, intricate passages.

A horn that gives you room to grow

The 480 platform is fully designed with advancing players in mind, providing you with pro-level features to build upon as you continue to refine your playstyle. A post-to-body construction provides free airflow for expressive dynamics, and a two-point brace stabilizes the horn without dampening horn vibration. Likewise, waterproof leather pads help maintain a long-lasting seal for each key, and plastic resonators provide consistent resonance across the horn. A professional neck receiver also lets you upgrade your setup with professional-grade Yamaha necks, such as the Custom Z and Custom EX, so you can dial in your tone without having to purchase a brand-new horn.

Yamaha saxophones: designed and built for artists

In 1967, Yamaha debuted their first saxophones: the YAS-1 alto and the YTS-1 tenor. Both found favor in the sax player community. In fact, jazz great John Coltrane, who built his reputation on the tenor and soprano, played the prototype YAS-1 gifted him by Yamaha extensively during his 1966 tour of Japan. In 1972, Yamaha partnered with renowned classical saxophonist Dr. Eugene Rousseau to develop a new line of professional-class saxophones. After arduous years of prototyping, testing, and revisions, Yamaha introduced the fruits of their labor: the YAS-62 alto, the YTS-62 tenor, and the YSS-62 soprano. Designed with three guiding principles in mind — superior acoustics, top-notch mechanisms, and artistic feel — the 62 series saxophones represented a milestone for Yamaha, setting the company on the path to becoming one of the world’s most respected saxophone makers. Today, Yamaha continues to adhere to the principles established during the creation of the original 62 series nearly a half century ago, providing saxophonists with fine instruments to inspire their artistry and meet their technical demands.
