Developed in collaboration with EVH and BOSS, the SDE-3000EVH accurately replicates the stereo delays that were central to Eddie Van Halen's iconic three-cabinet wet/dry/wet stage guitar sound. Van Halen was a pioneer of this setup in the early 90s, utilizing a dry path from a single amplifier in the central cabinet and left and right cabinets amplified with solely delay effects to create a wide, layered soundstage. The Roland SDE-3000 delays fit his requirements precisely and remained integral to his stage setup throughout his career. EVH and BOSS decided to democratize Van Halen's distinct setup with the vintage SDE-3000s. "Ed always found joy in seeing the creative ways people used his inventions," mentioned Matt Bruck, EVH's Managing Director. "We believed that encapsulating his unique delay technique and sharing it with others could inspire creativity." EVH and BOSS collaborated closely on the development of the SDE-3000EVH to guarantee it fully captured Eddie's personalized delay sound. After an exhaustive cycle of trials and feedback, both companies are excited to present the final product to guitarists worldwide. This device comes equipped with precise sonic reproductions of his presets and sports the iconic EVH stripes. Eddie relied on two SDE-3000 units with custom settings for his live performances. The SDE-3000EVH, with its dual delays, multiple outputs, and versatile routing modes, empowers any guitarist to recreate this setup with their amplifiers. Eight EVH presets comprise four presets intended for a wet/dry/wet setup and four adapted for a regular stereo amplifier setup. "The EVH presets mirror the ones in Eddie's rack perfectly," confirms Matt Bruck, "The mix levels, input levels, delay times ?Çô it's an exact match." In addition to the EVH presets and enhanced I/O functionalities, the SDE-3000EVH encompasses all the key features of the SDE-3000D. Features : Specially developed dual delay pedal by EVH and BOSS, inspired by the renowned 1980s Roland SDE-3000 digital delay. Includes eight EVH presets with exact settings from Eddie Van Halen s live rig, providing an authentic replication of his sound. Two comprehensive delays, each with independent parameters, mono/stereo modulation, and customizable delay times up to 3000ms. Offers versatile connectivity options, allowing creation of an EVH wet/dry/wet rig and seamless integration with various mono and stereo setups. Provides 100 user memories for saving and recalling sounds, paired with adjustable noise suppression for optimal audio quality. Enhanced operation control with onboard footswitches, additional jacks for external switches or expression pedals, and space-saving mini TRS jacks for MIDI I/O. The SDE-3000 and Eddie Van Halen Eddie Van Halen stands as one of the most influential guitarists, whose distinct style and inventive techniques will continue to motivate future musicians. His sought-after tone was a product of his unending pursuit of the finest sound possible, meticulously refining his choice of amplifiers and effects throughout his career. Roland SDE-3000 delays played a crucial role in shaping his signature wet/dry/wet live rig, delivering a superior tone and specific delay parameters, allowing Eddie to fine-tune his sound with precision. Despite experimenting with a competitor's product in a quest for sonic perfection, Eddie was never able to find a better delay than the SDE-3000, which became an essential part of his stage setup for the remainder of his career. "After extensive comparison of numerous delay products, Ed concluded that the SDE-3000s were unmatched," said Matt Bruck, the Managing Director at EVH. EVH and BOSS Collaborate to Bring You the SDE-3000EVH Preserving Eddie's legacy, EVH continues to share his groundbreaking ideas for guitar equipment with the global community of musicians. A while ago, EVH and BOSS initiated discussions about the possibility of making Eddie's unique approach to the vintage SDE-3000s accessible to everyone. EVH and BOSS partnered closely to develop the SDE-3000EVH, ensuring it captured Eddie's characteristic delay tone with absolute accuracy. Numerous test units were dispatched to the EVH team for detailed comparison with Eddie's settings and sounds at his renowned 5150 recording studio. After an exhaustive period of testing and feedback, we are excited to present the final product, featuring precise reproductions of Eddie's presets and bearing the distinctive EVH stripes. "Ed was always enthusiastic about how others utilized his creations. We believed it would be exciting to preserve his unique delay technique and provide others with a platform for their own inspiration," stated Matt Bruck. Recreating the Eddie Van Halen Delay Setup The SDE-3000 was initially a mono delay, and Eddie used two of these units with distinct settings to generate his sound. The SDE-3000EVH combines two SDE-3000s into one pedal, complete with an EVH preset bank for instant loading of settings for the dual delays. Simplified Wet/Dry/Wet Configuration Eddie introduced his three-cabinet wet/dry/wet setup in the early 90s, creating a broad, layered soundstage by using a dry path from a single amplifier in the center cabinet and left and right cabinets amplified solely with delay effects. With the multiple outputs and versatile routing modes in the SDE-3000EVH, it's possible to replicate this setup using your own amps. "When Ed adopted the wet/dry/wet configuration for his rig, it gave his live performances an unprecedented level of depth and dimension," shared Matt Bruck. Instant Access to EVH Presets The SDE-3000EVH comes with eight EVH presets accessible via a dedicated panel switch. The first four presets replicate the exact settings Eddie used in his live rig for a wet/dry/wet setup, while the next four presets offer the same sounds, tailored for a standard stereo amplifier setup. "The EVH presets replicate those in Eddie's rack to the tee. The mix levels, input levels, or delay times show no variance ?Çô it's a perfect match," affirmed Matt Bruck. The Rebirth of Vintage Delay Unlike the sharp, accurate tones of other digital delays from the 1980s, the SDE-3000 stood out with its attractive warm sound and inviting musicality. BOSS took into account numerous factors in creating the SDE-3000EVH, replicating the full character of this beloved classic for today's musicians. This was achieved by employing intelligent and intricate internal digital processing in combination with the nonlinear behaviors of the supporting analog circuitry. Authentic Details with Contemporary Upgrades The SDE-3000EVH retains almost all parameters from the original SDE-3000, accessed through a vintage-inspired interface. Like the original, two selectable delay ranges offer different frequency traits, and the distinctive modulation circuit has been accurately recreated. Alongside depth and rate controls, the phase of the initial delay and the delay feedback loop can be independently adjusted, affecting the modulation response. Added enhancements include 100 user memories, carryover, and more. A Pair of SDE-3000s within a Single Pedal The SDE-3000EVH incorporates two separate delays with independent settings and mono or stereo modulation for each. Running the delays in parallel and panning them results in constantly evolving stereo textures. Linking them in a series facilitates the creation of intricate rhythms and reverb-like depth. In addition to the EVH wet/dry/wet configuration, the flexible I/O supports an array of mono and stereo setups. An external loop allows the insertion of external pedals or interfacing with an amplifier's effects loop using the four-cable method, complete with selectable impedance for optimum tone. Compact Power for the Modern Age The SDE-3000EVH, with its pedal-based design and expanded control options, offers greater flexibility than its rackmount predecessor. Three onboard footswitches allow immediate control of memory selection, tap tempo, delay hold, and momentary effect engagement. Two control jacks enable connections of up to four footswitches, two expression pedals, or a GA-FC/GA-FC EX for external operation. The pedal also includes TRS MIDI I/O. A wide range of assignable targets are available, offering deep real-time control that far exceeds the capabilities of the original SDE-3000.
