The first 12-string entry in Taylors Builders Edition family of guitars, the 652ce sports Big Leaf maple back and sides that deliver a focused, player-reflective sound that showcases your individual technique. Torrefied Sitka spruce for the top brings an aged-in warmth and sweetness with V-Class bracing to dial up the volume and sustain. The reverse-strung setup (with the heavier string of each pair on top) generates more tonal heft in this Grand Concert's rich octave shimmer, and other Builder's Edition features include a beveled armrest and cutaway, chamfered body edges, a Silent Satin finish and a smooth Curve Wing bridge. The Builder's Edition 652ce boasts ES2 electronics and includes a deluxe hardshell case.
Grand Concert- The small-body Grand Concert debuted in 1984 to meet the needs of a new wave of adventurous acoustic fingerstyle players. The GC's compact saize and tapered waist keep overtones in check. It is also more comfortable to play while sitting down, and the guitar's slightly wider neck give players more room for complex fingerings. The GC's smaller sonic footprint also fits cleanly in a mix with other instruments when tracking in the studio and with a band on stage, making it a useful tool for professional session and side players.
Maple-Maple has long been associated with a bright acoustic sound, but Taylor's maple guitars are voiced to bring out greater warmth, richness and sustain. This broadens maple's tonal range from a single-dimension sound to a more musical, more versatile voice.
Sitka Spruce- The most commonly used wood for guitar tops, Sitka generates a broad dynamic range and accomodates numerous playing styles, from aggressive strumming to fingerpicking.
Expression System 2-The Expression System 2 captures more a guitar's dynamic properties using a breakthrough behind-the-saddle design.
Beveled Cutaway- Released as part of the Builder's Edition line in 2018, Taylor's beleved cutaway design provides a more player-friendly feel for guitarists who ultilze every inch of the fretboard. It features a compound design with a smoothened edge along the corner of the body between the end of the cutaway and the neck heel, providing a more comfortable feel for the fretting hand. The new cutaway design also incorporates a finger bevel on the guitar's top, a resting surface for the pinky finger near the highest frets of the guitar. Together, these elements allow the player to reach the entire fretboard without changing hand positions.
V-Class Bracing- Bracing is the internal architecture, featuring an arrangement of wooden struts, that strengthens the top and back of an acoustic guitar, creating a strategic balance between stiffness and flexibility. This helps translate the air movement produced by the vibrating guitar strings and soundboard into volume, sutain and other musical properties. The nuances of each bracing pattern help "voice" a guitar, working in concert with its body dimensions and tonewoods to flavor its sound.
