The Gibson L-00 Special: A USA-Built Icon Rooted in History
First introduced in 1932, the L-00 has remained the most well-known and popular small-body acoustic model in Gibson's illustrious history. The new L-00 Special is crafted by Gibson's expert acoustic luthiers in Bozeman, Montana, and offers players a USA-built Gibson acoustic guitar at a very accessible price. This is a guitar steeped in heritage yet designed to perform at every level of musicianship — from the bedroom songwriter to the seasoned performer. Available in Satin Ebony, Satin Natural, and Satin Honey Burst, the L-00 Special is as visually distinctive as it is tonally compelling.

The L-00 Special is constructed using genuine solid mahogany for the back and sides and a solid Sitka spruce top with traditional scalloped X-bracing, delivering a balanced tone with excellent dynamic range for a small-bodied acoustic. Both the top and back feature single-ply cream binding around the perimeter. The narrower waist of the L-00 body shape provides a focused and nuanced sound, naturally giving it a leaner and tighter bass response that sits perfectly in the mix. The tone is ideal for fingerstyle playing and blues, and works very well for other genres and playing styles, too — a guitar that rewards touch and expression in equal measure.
A Neck Built for Comfort and Confident Playability
The utile neck is attached to the body with a compound dovetail neck-to-body joint and, like all Gibson acoustic guitars, is affixed with hot hide glue for an exceptionally strong and resonant connection. The neck features a comfortable and fast-playing Slim Taper profile, and the rosewood fretboard has a 12" radius adorned with simple mother-of-pearl dot inlays. With 19 standard frets, a nut width of 1.725" / 43.815mm, and a scale length of 24.75" / 628.65mm, the L-00 Special offers a playing feel that is equally inviting for beginners finding their footing and experienced players looking for a reliable, expressive instrument. The closed slot rectangular rosewood bridge is equipped with a TUSQ saddle, and both the nut and bridge pins are TUSQ as well. Grover Mini Rotomatic tuners with chrome plating ensure solid tuning stability.
Satin Finish and Stage-Ready Electronics
The L-00 Special is finished in satin nitrocellulose lacquer — a breathable, player-friendly finish that gives the guitar a natural, broken-in feel right from the start. It comes equipped with an L.R. Baggs Element Bronze active under-saddle piezo pickup and active preamp with an easy-to-access soundhole-mounted volume control, making it stage and studio-ready from the moment you take it out of the included premium soft shell case. Whether you are playing an intimate acoustic set or recording at home, the L-00 Special is built and equipped to handle the moment.
