Comments:
While the baseline 2013 Standard shipped with an AA figured maple top, Gibson released limited monthly alternating runs featuring premium exotic tonewoods, which included a highly figured, premium Hawaiian Koa top. Because Hawaiian Koa features intricate visual properties (varying heavily from tight, horizontal flame to vertical ribbons), every single 2013 Koa Standard possesses a completely unique top aesthetic. They were most prominently finished in a warm "Smokehouse Burst" or "Honeyburst/Trans Amber” to highlight the wood’s natural gold and brown contrasts. This era debuted advanced circuitry. Pulling up the volume pots does not simply split the humbucker into a thin single-coil; instead, it utilizes a tuned capacitor to emulate a thick, punchy P-90/single-coil voice without the typical massive volume drop. Pulling up the rear tone knob engages a true bypass route, shooting the bridge pickup signal directly to the output jack. This bypasses the volume and tone pots completely, delivering maximum volume, biting clarity, and natural sustain.
