Up for sale is a 2013 Gibson Explorer Government Series II in the rare Government Tan finish.

The Government Series guitars were released by Gibson following the well-known federal wood seizure controversy, using legally reclaimed tonewoods returned by the U.S. government. Because of the story and limited production numbers, these models have become highly collectible among Gibson enthusiasts.

This particular guitar has also undergone a professional restoration and tasteful relic treatment by a skilled luthier, giving it an even stronger visual identity. The matte military-style finish naturally ages beautifully over time, and every small dent or mark only adds more character to the instrument.

Tone & Feel

I’ve owned and played many high-end guitars including ESP Standard and CTM models, but for that raw early Metallica / Kill ’Em All-style aggression, this guitar absolutely stands out.

The combination of:

  • Mahogany body and neck
  • Dirty Fingers+ pickups
  • Explorer body resonance

creates an incredibly:

  • Tight and aggressive attack
  • Crushing midrange
  • Open upper harmonic response

It handles high gain exceptionally well while still retaining clarity and punch.

The Slim Taper neck also keeps the guitar fast and comfortable despite the inherently massive Explorer vibe.

Condition

Overall condition is excellent with expected cosmetic wear from the relic work and natural aging.

  • Professionally restored and relic’d body
  • Strap locks installed
  • Electronics fully functional
  • No structural issues

This is not a sterile collector piece — it feels like a guitar meant to be played.

Included

  • Original Gibson hard shell case
  • Wrench / adjustment tool
  • Leather strap

COA and original candy are not included.
