Gibson's creatively named EB (electric bass) series never came close to the popularity of the Fender Jazz and Precision basses, but it did give players a professional-level short-scale option. While most EB models were based on the SG body, this EB-2 takes a different route, borrowing the ES guitar shape for a semi-hollow short-scale design produced from 1958 to 1972.
This bass is in very good condition, with a straight neck, a functional one-way truss rod, and fully working electronics. We've already given it a setup, and it's a solid player as it sits. The under tray of the bridge is missing, but the bridge remains functional and adjustable. The truss rod cover is also missing, but aside from that it is intact, with very few signs of playwear. The "Mudbucker" pickup is not quite as muddy as its reputation suggests, and that may be due in part to how much bass amplification has improved over the years. The tone is warm and thick, but still clear enough for blues, R&B, and jazz.
After many years in storage, this Gibson EB-2 stands as a nice collector's piece or a great vintage player ready for its next chapter.
