This is a 12" JBL D131, first generation made in CA from the late 40's to the early 50's. It is the predecessor to all the subsequent JBL twelves.
The "D120F" series JBL's are what we all know and love for guitar. Suggest doing a search on the difference between this original D131 and the later versions. In summary, not much. The later guitar specific versions are slightly more capable of handling sustained high output.
I came across this frame about 15 years ago and had it expertly reconed by "The Speaker Doctor" in JAX FL, a lifelong pro who has done many vintage recones for me, and all have been excellent.
I requested that it be reconed specifically for guitar, and to not use an aluminum dust cover like it had originally. Extreme brightness not required.
The result is outstanding vintage JBL goodness. For guitar it's a D120F that handles the about the same power but breaks up sweetly just a bit sooner, and minus that aluminum dust cone edginess. Awesome. Reconed to 8 ohm spec. Not even broken in yet, as I didn't take it out of the house.
Retirement sale, so it's your chance to snag a truly outstanding vintage JBL speaker. So sure you'll love it that I'll accept returns within 10 days.
Please note the JBL factory pic showing the D131 and JBL product flyer together is for comparison purposes. The speaker shown in the JBL ad is not the reconed speaker being sold.
Ships to lower 48 US states. Local pickup in Jacksonville FL with 10 day return policy. You won't be thinking about returning a rare vintage speaker that sounds like this, but rest assured if you don't love it.
