1961 Fender Precision Bass. This bass was brought to us by the family of a local musician that recently passed (and was still gigging into his ’90’s!). He had made a few changes and modifications over the years on the bass but luckily almost all of the original parts were in the case pocket. We carefully put it back to it’s original form as much as we could. The non-original pickup was removed along with a phase switch that left a small hole by the volume and tone knobs. Unfortunately the replaced bridge was a first gen Badass that was installed by cutting it into the body. The original bridge is included and could be re-installed by any good luthier if so desired. It did not have the original volume and tone pots so we installed the correct value CTS pots using the original wiring and disc cap. There was a makeshift muting system that we removed but it did leave a few extra holes in the body and on the side of the bridge cover. There was also some kind of “hook” we removed on the top edge leaving four holes. Pickguard shows the usual shrinkage and has one tip broken off.

OK, now to the neck. Unlike the body which is marked as a ’61, the neck has no date on the end and there are no decals so we can only date this by confirming it’s construction and wood used. Everything points to a late ’50’s early ’60’s Fender construction including the Brazilian Rosewood slab fingerboard, the position of the adjuster, the white position markers and the frets used.

This bass has tons of mojo and is now back to playing and sounding the way it should. Comes in an late ’70’s Fender case.
