Gibson RB-250 1988 - gloss finish

(USED) The Gibson Mastertone has been synonymous with Bluegrass music for a very long time. This is a “Greg Rich era” RB-250 (SN# 80648541 dates it to 1988) It has the look and heft that most other banjos are based on, and bluegrassers still go gaga for an authentic Gibson.  It has the standard RB-250/RB3 Mahogany rim and neck, one piece flange, twin coordinator rods, Gibson-engraved clamshell tailpiece, plastic-bound rosewood fretboard with capo spikes at 7, 10 and 12.  There is a hole where a spike was removed on the 9th fret.  Scale length is 26 1/2".  

The overall condition is good with moderate fret wear in the first position and some finish checking on the headstock, typical grayish-tarnish on the hardware and a few dings in the resonator.  Currently plays fast with a 1/2" Grover bridge.  The middle G and B tuners have been replaced with Keith/Scruggs tuners.  Includes hard case.

This banjo has been a workhorse for a very popular local family bluegrass band, and it has seen a thousand jam sessions, shows, and festivals. it’s the real deal. The RB-250 is the most economical path to a true Mastertone banjo, and this one has superb provenance.
