The LP Lord Player line from Yamaha was a domestic Japan only line, and the final Les Paul style from Yamaha after the SL Studio Lord line finished in 1983.
I don't know for certain that this is a 1984 model - the serial number is 145687, but the Yamaha SL and LP models don't always follow other Yamaha serial numbers, so there's no way to know for certain. There's no markings in the pickup routes, control cavities, no dates on the backs of the pots, and no stamps on the pickups. But based on the tuners being Kluson style, and the body being Agathis, I would guess it's either a 1983, 1984 or very early 1985 before the specs changed. It appears that the LP line stopped being produced in 1986.
This particular LP-400 appears to be all original, and being 40+ year old guitar, it's in good player grade condition, with a little bit of rock and roll scars: with a larger chip/dent on the top corner of the headstock, a small chip in the finish on the top edge of the bass side lower bout, and some minor scratches, dings, dents and swirling over the whole guitar.
It's been played, but the frets and fretboard are still in really great shape, with only minor play wear on them.
Based on the 1984 Yamaha catalog, it has a mahogany neck, pancake Agathis body, with a maple cap. The top on this particular guitar appears to be thick 3 piece.
The top carve on these Yamaha's are more pronounced than the previous SL line which were more flat. It's quite a nice carve to it, and it's comfortable to play sitting down - it's not a sharp edge digging into your arm.
There's a few other things that Yamaha was doing that other makers weren't doing: metal jack plates, pots that are anchored on the body by a hole through the top of the body, and the body binding is black/cream. A few nice touches.
The 1 piece mahogany neck is really nice to play on, with a medium C carve to it, starting out at 21.6mm at the 1st fret and making its way up to 24.1mm by the 12th fret. It has a nice medium brown rosewood fretboard, with really nice yellowed acrylic celluloid looking trapezoid inlays - they look vintage correct.
The original chrome covered alnico V (alnico 5) pickups are lower output, measuring in the high 6K ohm range, and sound very clear, with a tight low end, smooth mids, and clear highs. They are excellent clean, but can get dirty when needed.
All the guitars I sell, I test, thoroughly clean, and setup completely before I list them. Anything that is missing, damaged, or non original is mentioned in the listing.
I setup all my Gibson style guitars to Gibson factory specs - including neck relief, action, pickup height, intonation, and tailpiece height. So this guitar will be ready to play out of the box (after you tune it up - I ship my guitars with the strings loosened).
Comes with a generic black nylon gig bag that is in used condition.
Overall, this is a classic Japanese made Les Paul that looks, plays and sounds great.

CONDITION ------------
Overall it's in good player grade condition shape.
I've tried to capture all of the flaws in the photos and in the description.
Across the entire body, top, back side, neck, and headstock, there are some minor dings, dents, scratches, and swirling in the finish.
There is a large dent/chip in the top corner of the headstock.
There is a smaller chip in the finish along the top edge of the bass side lower bout.
There is some typical buckle rash on the back of the body.
There is some blushing in the black paint on the face of the headstock - this is typical to see on Yamaha guitars from this era.
Around the strap buttons there's some minor strap marks/swirling.
All of the chrome hardware, including the bridge, tailpiece, pickup covers and pole pieces, tuners, and screws all have varying degrees of pitting, corrosion, tarnish, peeling and/or rust. It has all been cleaned and polished, and everything works as expected, including the tuners and bridge saddles.
The cream and black plastics are in tact with typical scratches and pick marks.
All of the original chrome unbranded double ring tuners are straight and work properly.
The 22 medium jumbo frets have been played, and show some light fret wear on the the 1st to 12th frets mainly on the plain strings, but overall there is nearly the full life left in these frets, and the guitar plays good up and down the entire neck.
There's no signs of a headstock, heel or any other repairs.
The truss rod, which is a 5mm hex nut recessed under the fretboard, has lots of room to tighten, but it all the way loose. Currently, with 10-46 strings setup in E standard tuning, there is 0.006" of relief measured at between the top of the 8th fret and the bottom of the low E string with the 1st and 17th frets depressed. In this current setup, the guitar plays good up and down the entire neck.
