The Fender D’Aquisto Standard Archtop represents one of Fender’s most ambitious collaborations with legendary luthier Jimmy D’Aquisto, a direct successor to the New York archtop tradition of D’Angelico. During the early-to-mid 1980s, Fender Japan produced these instruments with exceptional attention to detail, aiming to bring true jazz-box character into a more accessible and reliable platform.
This 1985 Made in Japan example captures that vision perfectly. Unlike the more common single-pickup versions, this guitar features the dual humbucker configuration, offering a wider tonal palette — from warm, rounded neck pickup jazz tones to more articulate and defined bridge sounds, ideal for comping, soloing, or even crossover styles.
Finished in Natural, the instrument showcases a classic archtop aesthetic with a focused, woody response. It has been set up with flatwound strings and very low action, delivering that smooth, effortless jazz feel that serious players look for.
