Custom Tube Tape Head Preamplifier

Offered here is very high quality tape universal head preamp that can be used with a verity of high grade reel to reel tape recorders.

It can also be used as the high quality phono stage.

The preamp comes with 5 position EQ switch, including:

1.  Standard RIAA curve of high accuracy.

2.  7.5ips IEC

3.  NAB for 7.5 and 15ips

4.  15ips IEC

5.  30ips AES

All EQ curves are test bench adjusted, but further tweaking can be done connected to the target machine.Please see the chart - calibrated on professional test system.

This is a very HIG grade product, this is not a cheap Chinese board in an Ali Express case. 

The product is based on highly acclaimed Balanced Audio Technology VK-P5SE phono stage than needs no introduction - you can find many reviews on line and in magazines. 

Some of the design features include:

1.  Complete Dual Mono construction, with two separate, highest grade custom toroidal power transformers.  These parts are made by the Canadian firm Plitron, well known in the high-end audio community.

2.  Low noise single-ended input circuit configuration using two 6922 triodes working in parallel.  There is an additional XLR input that can be used with balanced cables. This is one of the lowest noise preamps that I have built.

3.  Two sets of balanced output connectors for flexibility.

4.  10 tube, all tube, ZERO FEEDBACK design.  3 tube gain stages.  High audiophile grade parts throughout.

5. All-triode, high current circuit with low impedances, extremely linear without any global feedback.

6.  Optional High Gain output stage based on 6C45 tubes for more gain and lower output impedance.

7.  Optional SUPER-PAK power supply upgrade using highest grade oil film capacitors. 

7.  EQ board has individual trim resistors for precise calibration.  

9.  EQ switch outside the signal path.

10. Flexible Input loading, with multiple positions both for RIAA and tape heads. Custom resistors can be installed. Several resistor values are installed and can be selected with a switch, including:

11. The EQ board has easy access for calibration, and the selected position is highlighted by the LED's, eliminating any possible error. Two LED's are visible in several pictures.

12. Excellent tube sound, low noise, tremendous dynamics.

13.  Heavy duty case construction, 2mm steel chassis and the cover with heavy machined front panel.

14. The unit is currently configured for 120V, but can be converted to 230V on request.

This conversion was done by Victor Khomenko, the designer of the original VK-P5SE, so you can be assured of it being done properly.
