The PRS Special Semi-Hollow 10 Top in Cobalt Smokeburst is a perfect example of PRS pairing striking aesthetics with real-world versatility. The standout here is the flame maple 10 Top, a designation reserved for maple with exceptional figure and consistency across the entire surface. Under the Cobalt Smokeburst finish, the top comes alive with shifting blue tones, darker edges, and a three-dimensional depth that changes in the light.

The stained natural binding adds a refined contrast against the black back and sides, framing the top beautifully. Combined with the semi-hollow construction and single F-hole, this model offers a more open, resonant character than its solidbody counterparts, with added air and bloom in the response while still retaining the clarity and balance PRS is known for.

At its core, it’s everything you expect from a Special Semi-Hollow. The tones are resonant and responsive, with a wider tonal range than most. The McCarty III TCI humbuckers in the bridge and neck positions bring fullness and bite, while the Narrowfield in the middle adds extra clarity and snap. The five-way blade switch and coil-tap mini toggles provide lots of tonal possibilities, but it never feels overcomplicated. The PRS Special Semi-Hollow 10 Top in Cobalt Smokeburst is a well-balanced, versatile PRS that covers a lot of ground without losing its identity.
