Tama - 1980s "Neil Peart, RUSH", Superstar 11-Piece Drum Set.

Neal Peart is without question amongst the greatest drummers of all time.

His innovative playing and writing expanded the boundaries of modern music.

He inspired generations of drummers. In the early 1980s, Peart played a Candy Apple Red Tama set almost identical to this 11 piece Tama Superstar set. Peart's red Tama set was featured heavily in Tama's marketing materials of the era, including their now legendary dealer banner featuring Peart playing the massive set while floating on woodland river. These images filled the dreams of countless drummers to someday own such a magnificent set.

So now's your chance...

This is by far, the nicest Cherry Red Tama Superstar "Neal Peart" set I've ever encountered. If there's a better one out there, I've never seen it.

To be clear, this set is nearly identical to Neil Peart's Tama set but was not owned or used by Neil Peart.

In short, this set is in spectacular, 100% original and unmodified condition, with the exception of a single tom holder mounted slightly left of center on the left bass drum (ala Neal Peart).

By all indicators this entire set was a custom matched set built entirely on the same order. All of the exterior Candy Apple Red finishes and the interior Red Stain finishes match perfectly. All the bass drums, double headed toms and gong drum have 14501*** serial numbers on "T" shaped Tama badges. The four concert toms have 1540099* serial numbers on rectangular Tama badges.

It's not flawless but it's really close.

I'll do my best to detail any flaws on the set. There are a lot of drums here. Many of the flaws are so minor they would not even warrant mentioning on a lesser set. Note that the finish is so shiny that many photos may appear to have markings that are in fact reflections in the candy apple finish. The 4 photos of the stacked drums show all 4 "sides" of the set. The Candy Apple Red lacquer finish is extremely clean, shiny, and scuff free. There are some chips in the finish, most notably on the bass drum hoops, the right bass drum, the 18" floor tom and the 15" tom. As you can see from the photos, you have to look pretty hard to see them. There are a few very small chips on some of the other drums that you have to look very closely to even find. They've all been touched up with a red marker. This significantly reduces their visibility but does't completely hide them. These are detailed in the photos. The 12" and 13" double headed toms have some minor dings in the surface of the shells. They dings don't crack the finish. See pics.

The chrome hardware is all in excellent condition. Most of the lugs, hoops, mounts, Ts and claws are flawless. Some of them have some minor pitting. I've shown examples of the best and the worst in the photos.

The most significant damage on the entire set is a small split in the outer ply of the right bass drum. Initially I thought it was just a scratch, but running my finger over it I could feel a very slight raise in the finish. The crack is only in the outer ply. It does not go through to the interior.

The replica "Starman" bass drum logo heads are included.

There are photos of any notable flaws. The photos depict the condition accurately. I'm limited to 25 photos here. More photos available.

Note! There were a pair of 13" and 14" matching timbales with this set. Somewhere between the previous owner and myself they were misplaced. I'm confident they will be located shortly. Both of us are moving our warehouses between now and 6/30/2026. I'm virtually certain they will be located once we clear our warehouses. Stay tuned. I'll add them to the listing as soon as they're located.

Opportunities to own a set like this are extremely rare. When this one is gone, it's unlikely you'll ever find another like it.

The tom mounts, gong bass stand and two concert tom weighted boom stands are included.

Snare drum, snare stand and pedals are not included.

The set will be professionally packed and shipped via freight. US shipping rate of $900 is an estimate. Buyer will pay actual shipping cost.
