Vintage Gibson 1985
Gibson Les Paul Custom
100% Original
Ferrari Red
Original Tim Shaw Pickups And Gibson Branded Kahler Tremolo And Bar
This is a Vintage 1985 Gibson Les Paul Custom in rare and striking Ferrari Red, complete with its original Gibson hard case. This is a 100% original example without exception, and a great representation of mid-’80s Gibson craftsmanship.
The Ferrari Red finish is still in great shape, showing only minor cosmetic wear that would not be of concern for a guitar of this age. There are some light dings, dents, and scratches, along with minor buckle rash on the back, but overall it presents extremely well and remains highly original.
The gold hardware shows light discoloration and wear from age and play, consistent with a well preserved vintage instrument. The neck is straight, and the truss rod functions exactly as it should. The frets show only minor wear as pictured and the guitar plays beautifully across the entire fingerboard.
This guitar is factory equipped with a Gibson-branded Kahler tremolo, complete with the original tremolo arm. It is properly set up and operates perfectly, offering smooth and reliable performance.
The guitar is marked “SEC” under the serial number, which is commonly seen on Gibson instruments in general and does not affect the guitar in any meaningful way at this point in its life.
This example retains its original Gibson Tim Shaw patent number PAF humbuckers, which sound absolutely fantastic. Very clear, articulate, and highly sought after. The original PAF decals are still on the pickup rings as pictured. All electronics are original and working perfectly, with pots codes dating to 1985.
A nice bonus—this Custom is relatively light for the model, weighing in at just 10 pounds, 4 Ounces, making it very comfortable compared to many others from this era.
Specifications:
- Weight: 10 Pounds, 4 Ounces
- Scale Length: 24.75 in
- Nut Width: 1.70 in
- Neck Thickness: .823 at 1st fret & .961 at 12th fret
The Original Gibson Hard Case is included and in very good condition, with no issues or odors. The combination lock is still set to 000. This was a transitional period with Gibson moving from the chainsaw cases to the brown cases, so either case would be considered correct in this era.
Overall, this is a super clean, fully original mid-’80s Les Paul Custom with great tone, excellent playability, and strong collector appeal.
