This modern take stays true to that heritage while offering an accessible, USA-built option handcrafted in Bozeman, Montana by Gibson’s expert luthiers. Built with a traditional square-shouldered body, the Hummingbird Special pairs a solid Sitka spruce top with solid mahogany back and sides, enhanced by classic scalloped X-bracing. The result is a warm, balanced tone with impressive dynamic range, equally suited for delicate fingerstyle passages or full, driving strums. Its slightly thinner “concert depth” body offers a more comfortable feel and a tighter, more focused low end, making it a perfect fit whether you’re playing solo or sitting cleanly in a mix with other instruments.

The attention to detail continues through the neck and hardware. A comfortable Round-profile utile neck is joined to the body using a compound dovetail joint with hot hide glue, ensuring excellent resonance and long-term stability. The rosewood fretboard features a 12-inch radius, 20 standard frets, and classic pearloid parallelogram inlays—an iconic visual signature of the Hummingbird line. A traditional belly-up rosewood bridge with TUSQ saddle and matching nut and bridge pins enhances sustain and clarity, while Grover Rotomatic tuners provide dependable, rock-solid tuning stability.

Plugged in, the guitar is ready for any stage or studio setting thanks to the L.R. Baggs Element Bronze under-saddle pickup and active preamp, complete with a discreet soundhole-mounted volume control.
