 You are looking at an older 1960's era Shure Brothers 51S dynamic microphone made into a custom LED lamp.   This 51 model made it's debut in 1947 and had a run of roughly 20 years until it was eventually discontinued in the late 1960's for the more modern style hand held mics that were becoming far more practical. A cast zinc body with a glossy satin chrome finish. She's a great piece of mid century Americana.

 Pic # 2 shows this very model in an old 1960's era Shure catalog that I have.

 The Shure 51 was a favorite of Nat King Cole's when performing live in concert (as seen in pic # 3) and was a rugged design with a very unique look.

 I should start by letting you know that this mic lamp is made by a gentleman in Canada named Gord D Birtch who is a Jack of all Trades. An artist, musician and all around good guy with an eye for these older mics. He has an online store called Luminous Groove and I have several of his mic lamps at my residence. I have been collecting them for almost 2 years now. I send him the microphones and he turns them into this finished product.

 These lamps are extremely high quality unlike many of the cheaper examples seen on Ebay.

 All of the mics are gutted, cleaned and professionally wired with high quality, efficient American L.E.D lights.   Gord will often install metal mesh screen in his mics. Some do not have them but it really comes down to how the mic is designed and how we want the light to be thrown. This one does have the mesh metal screen.

 The actual mic being sold is in pics # 1 - 9. The lamp shown in pics # 1 - 13 is an earlier 51 model but the light cast is exactly the same so you have an idea how this mic looks.

 This Shure 51 casts an amazing ambiance once activated as you can see in the pictures provided. It throws a lot of light and has a warm glow. If you want to light up the ceiling or corner in your house this will do nicely. It will accentuate any painting or sculpture you have as well. This will make an excellent accent piece anywhere in the home, studio or office and this mic lamp will screw onto any microphone desk or floor stand. I do have several vintage stands available in my Ebay store however.

 I'm really just trying to get his name and recognition out there. His work is top notch. Again, I have several of his pieces in my residence and everybody who comes over absolutely loves them.

 The 51S itself is in very nice overall physical condition. It shows very fine pitting but otherwise quite beautiful.   The front grill is free of any dents or fractures and the satin chrome has a nice luster. The joint mechanism on this mic has lots of tension and works perfectly allowing you to tilt the head backwards putting light wherever you need it. The on / off switch slides smooth and the Shure 51S badge looks great and completely legible. A cable connector is attached to the mic as it would be naturally completing the effect of the mic.

 The cable itself is a high quality cloth covered item and has an older vintage feel to it. It's appx 9 feet in length and has an on / off switch as you can see in pic # 8. Simply plug this in to your light socket and your good to go. I believe these LED's are rated at 50,000 hours. This 51S has a triple LED unit which is quite strong and would make a good light for reading a book by. It will light up a small room and is too strong for a night light.

 This is an actual Shure Brothers 51S mic. Not a replica. One of the coolest lamps you could own and perfect for that mid century vibe and an excellent gift for just about anybody.
