This pad is in working order, with significant cosmetic wear. It has been plugged in/tested, and it functions normally.

This and other Simmons products we have listed all come from the studio of the great Steve Holley, who played drums with Paul McCartney and Wings, Mott the Hoople, Julian Lennon, Joe Cocker, and many more! Mr. Holley used Simmons pads and SVSV at various times in his career.

Introduced in the late 1970s and popularized in the early 1980s, Simmons electronic drum pads stood out for their futuristic hexagonal shape. The flat rubber playing surface became iconic in electronic music and pop. Each pad converted a drumstick strike into an electronic signal, which was sent to a sound module. Velocity sensitivity was limited by modern standards. However, the consistent, punchy tones cut cleanly through mixes and were groundbreaking for their time. Sonically, the pads were closely associated with the characteristic “pew” or “dooo” tom sounds of the era. The artificial, sharply pitched, and highly recognizable tones became part of the appeal. Despite their innovation, the polycarbonate surface was physically demanding over long sessions. Triggering inconsistencies also required careful setup and technique. These qualities helped define the sound of early electronic and new wave music.
