Up for sale is a stunning 1960s Guyatone HG-92 lap steel guitar in a gorgeous naturally aged ivory finish. Crafted in Japan during the golden era of the Tokyo Sound Company factory, this professional grade Hawaiian slide guitar offers the same mid century quality found in high end Teisco or Kawai instruments of the same period.

Tone and Electronics

This HG-92 is a sonic powerhouse equipped with two original Guyatone single coil pickups. These are often sought after by collectors for having a punchy clear response that rivals the legendary Gold Foil pickups or the classic bite of a vintage Silvertone.

• Dual Pickup Versatility: Unlike many single pickup student models from Kay or Harmony, this dual pickup configuration allows for a massive range of tones. It captures the biting bridge position twang of Jerry Byrd as well as the warm jazzy sustain of Speedy West.

• Unique Switching System: Features the rare three way rocker switch assembly (M1, M2, and Soft). This allows you to toggle between pickup combinations or a Soft mode that acts as a preset rhythm circuit. This design logic is similar to the rhythm lead circuits on a Fender Jaguar or Jazzmaster.

• Controls: Master Volume and Master Tone with original knurled chrome hat knobs.

Build and Condition

The guitar is in excellent vintage condition. It shows honest finish wear including minor scuffs, mild corrosion on the hardware, and light checking which adds to its authentic Mojo.

• Fretboard: Beautifully preserved brushed aluminum playing surface with iconic Roman numeral markers giving it a sleek Jetson aesthetic similar to a Magnatone or Supro Jet Airliner.

• Hardware: All original chrome hardware including the fixed bridge and vintage open gear tuners.

• Body: Solid heavy duty construction provides incredible natural resonance and sustain carrying the weight and feel of a Fender Deluxe or a Gibson Console steel.

• Scale: Standard 22.5 inch scale length perfect for C6, Open G, or E9 tunings.

Why This Guyatone?

Collectors often refer to these MIJ steels as the hidden gems of the 60s. Whether you are chasing the surf rock vibes of Hank Marvin or the classic country swells of Don Helms, this HG-92 delivers professional utility at a fraction of the cost of a National or Rickenbacker.

Included:

• Soft Case: Fits the instrument and provides protection for storage or transport.
