Handcrafted and master built in the 80s in Brooklyn, New York, this one-of-a-kind Custom 7-string Fodera Monarch is a foundational piece of the boutique bass movement. This bass has been personally authenticated by both founders, Vinny Fodera and Joey Lauricella, and features both of their signatures on the back of the headstock. While the Monarch is Fodera's iconic original shape, a 7-string version like this is a rare custom commission, making it a true unicorn for Fodera collectors. Since their founding in 1983, Fodera has only produced a select few 7-string basses and because of it's early production date, it is possible this is one of the first 7-strings they crafted. We are currently awaiting further details from Vinny Fodera's records to confirm its full history. The visual and structural artistry of this bass is second to none, featuring an Exhibition Grade heavy Birdseye Maple top which is perfectly complimented by a Birdseye Maple fingerboard, neck and headstock. The sophisticated wood-mapping includes Purpleheart stringers set between standard Maple in the center region of the top and the core of the neck. This multi-piece neck meets a Walnut transition before connecting to the premium Alder body, offering the perfect balance of snap, sustain and low-end warmth. Though the neck of the bass is wide to accommodate seven strings but it's surprisingly slim and ergonomic, providing a solid comfortable grip without feeling too bulky in hand. Fodera's are known for their low, consistent action and this Monarch is no exception to that. The smooth, hard surface of the the Birdseye Maple fingerboard makes it an ideal platform for advanced techniques, from complex chordal playing to effortless two-hand tapping. This Monarch is equipped with a set of vintage Bartolini Soapbar pickups which provide a rich, organic tonal palette. These pickups are a perfect match for this build and really highlight the bass's complex wood composition with warm, high fidelity clarity that remains articulate across all seven strings. This bass is in excellent used condition showing minimal playwear from previous use and a minor abrasion on the bottom of the body which has been photo'd above. These minor cosmetic defects will not affect the playability or tonal quality of the instrument. All of the electronics on this bass are in working order and the neck is straight. The intonation is spot on, the action is excellent and there is no fret wear apparent. This bass is professionally set up and weighs in at 11 pounds, 0 ounces.
