For your pleasure a beautiful example of a rare Ren Ferguson, "Good Wood Era" Gibson 1958 J-200 (see label). IYKYK. One of his first reissues (precursor to the Custom Shop) AND only produced from 1995-1998. Gorgeous figured maple wood back and sides, spruce top, double parallelogram MOP inlay on the distinctive moustache bridge and gold Kluson style tuners. Elegant BIG J-200 sound. This is the super rare 1958 reissue. Unlike the pre-war, 1957, 1964, 1968 and The 60's reissues with either the clunky or baseball bat neck, this is 1958 is unique because it has the "Tapered C Shape neck". You'll note there's no serial number on the headstock which is period correct for 1958. Also with the 1 11/16 nut, the tapered C shape has the shallow carve. This shape makes it a fast guitar with just the right amount of space for picking. The sound is huge just as the "King of Flat Tops" should be. And beautiful. Absolutely gorgeous. Three items of note: There's a small "cigarette" burn on the neck back. That's the best way to describe it. It's near the body so it doesn't affect playing in the least but it's there. Also the top has a couple of repaired cracks. I just had it gone through and set up with D'Addario 11's by the Amazing Nick, former tech of Norman's Rare Guitars in LA. There's no one better so the repairs to the top are rock solid and the action, perfect. It plays fantastically. Lastly the pick guard appears to have “pillow-like“ cracks which again don't affect sound or playability but are there even though barely noticeable. I had to try really hard to show it in the photos. Original Gibson case. So why sell this rare and gorgeous sounding gem? I've concluded the jumbo is just not the right sized guitar for me. My loss is your gain. Please note, this guitar is located and shipped from California. Not Japan or some far distant duties and tarrif laden land. Right here in the good old USA.
