The Altec Lansing Madrid 872A is a vintage 2-way loudspeaker system from the early 1970s, highly regarded for its warm, classic "Altec voice" and MCM aesthetic. It is effectively a furniture-grade version of the Altec 870B system, featuring a 15-inch 420Y Biflex coaxial driver. This set is in Good condition; they sound great and the drivers are in excellent shape but there is some delamination in some of the cabinetry and some of the wooden matrix on the front grille has broken off (but we've retained most/all of it) so it's a mixed bag cosmetically, but these are great where it really counts, the sound.
- Driver Configuration: 15" Altec 420Y Biflex woofer with a 3" paper cone tweeter (CTS 30685) mounted on a crossbar over the woofer
- Sound Profile: Known for a smooth midrange, natural bass response, and detailed vintage highs, making it an excellent match for low-power tube amplifiers due to its high efficiency.
- Impedance: 8 ohms
- Power Handling: 100 watts
- Cabinet Design: Vented enclosure made of real walnut veneer with iconic Spanish-style lattice grilles
- Dimensions: Approximately 24" H x 22" W x 18" D
- Weight: Roughly 50–55 lbs per unit
Service History: No service records were included from the prior owner. Here at the shop we did routine testing, cleaning and inspection.
