I built and successfully tested a drop clutch and rheostat to adjust top cymbal height of Electronic Drum Hi Hat.
For use with double bass drum pedals. It takes me about an hour to drill holes, solder wires, slide tie straps through bottom, mount components in little black box. (1 inch high, 2 inches wide, by 3 inches long), then test. Then down to United States Post Office, package in a box and mail.
It is a TRS (3 wire "stereo") 1/4 inch connection that plugs in between electronic drum hi hat pedal and sound module.
Toggle switch ON to ON one way normal uninterrupted connection like it doesn't exist, toggle interrupts circuit and sends cymbal position signal to rheostat bypassing pedal, immediate upon toggle then top cymbal moves to rheostat setting (if rheostat set at 0 ohms a drop clutch chick sound (cymbals closed)). When hi hat cymbal struck while you turn rheostat knob the top cymbal "position" moves through sloshy to wide open hi hat (just like if you controlled position with your foot).
Simple circuit I finally figured out (with digital volt ohm meter). Current prototype working awesome on my Simmons SD600 drum kit.
